Mermerli Beach is the only beach in Kaleiçi amid high travertine cliffs on both sides of the marina. Mermerli Beach, located in a small indentation to the south of the port, takes its name from the Mermerli Köşk, which was once located on the high terrace in the southeast of the port. This mansion is not available now.
While Antalya has not yet experienced such a boom of tourism, it was the only beach in Kaleiçi used by the public and the first beach in the city, Mermerli. Mermerli Beach, with its marina on the shore, the city walls and towers behind it, is actually home to thousands of years of historical heritage. In addition to the historical texture it has, Mermerli Beach has a fascinating atmosphere with the magnificent view of the travertine rocks, the Gulf of Antalya, the Mediterranean Sea and the Beydağları.
Local historians for Mermerli Beach say that in the 1930s, an area near the shore on the sea was surrounded by wooden screens and used as a bathing place for the beach. The opening date of the beach to the public corresponds to the 1970s. Even then, Mermerli Beach was used by women before lunch and by men in the afternoon.
